My wife drinks 12 bottles of wine a week and takes 64 paracetamol
DEAR DEIDRE: MY wife drinks 12 bottles of wine a week and she takes 64 paracetamol a week.
She’s 62 and she’s been prescribed medication for an underactive thyroid but when the doctor asks her, she says she’s teetotal.
She doesn’t eat much and I’m guessing it’s due to all the wine she is drinking.
How long can she live this way? It’s hard for me to watch her abuse herself.
I hadn’t realised how much she drank until I was working at home because of the pandemic.
Now I’m counting the bottles in the recycling bin.
I’m 59 and I’m worried about how long she’ll be with me.

DEIDRE SAYS: Find a quiet moment when she’s sober to tell her you’re worried about her.
Explain you’re concerned for her health and offer to go to the doctor with her for a review.
You’ll get a chance to highlight your concerns to the doctor first-hand.
