NYC comptroller contender David Weprin floats pledge for candidates to not use the post as mayoral stepping stone
The move, which Weprin plans to announce Monday, is aimed at all his opponents, but appears to be most specifically directed at the race’s frontrunner, Council Speaker Corey Johnson, who dropped his bid to run for mayor last year over mental health concerns, only to announce months later that he’d run for comptroller.
