Superstar Arsenal target delivers clearest indication yet on future intentions
An impressive Inter Milan star linked with a switch to Arsenal worth upwards of €40m has explicity stated where he sees his future.
Arsenal appear destined to miss out on a place in the Champions League unless a route via the Europa League is secured. The Gunners rallied to snatch a late equaliser against Fulham, though a draw with a relegation-threatened team did little for their ailing top four hopes.
Despite their struggles, Mikel Arteta is widely accepted to be taking the club in the right direction.
But in order to retake their place at the top table of English football, the club will need several successful transfer windows.
One position that could see turnover this summer is right-back.
Hector Bellerin has been at the Emirates since 2011, but continues to be linked with a summer departure.
Former club Barcelona have repeatedly been linked, though the most recent report divulged interest from a different European giant.
Cedric Soares and Calum Chambers have deputised at right-back on occasion. But neither boast the quality a team challenging for major honours would require.
As such, Arsenal have been persistently linked with a blockbuster deal for Inter’s Achraf Hakimi.
The 22-year-old has been a revelation since his summer move to Serie A. The marauding right-back has racked up impressive figures of six goals and six assists in the league as Inter appear destined to break Juventus’ grip on the title.
Rumours began to swirl the Moroccan could be the ideal upgrade on Bellerin, but the player himself has moved to quash such talk.
Speaking to Italian outlet La Repubblica (via The Sun), Hakimi reitterated his desire to remain with the Nerazzurri.
“The team that attracted me the most was Inter and I saw it as a growth project.
“I’m honoured to be one of the testimonials for the new club logo. I like it, as it looks to the future, a future we can build together.
“I hope to stay at this club for a long time and I’m very happy.”
Arsenal eyeing striker in form of his life
Meanwhile, Arsenal are interested in giving Gent striker Roman Yaremchuk an opportunity in the Premier League, according to reports.
Ukraine international Yaremchuk is enjoying a prolific season in the Belgian top flight. He has already achieved his best ever goals tally for a single campaign, having netted 18 times in all competitions. At 25 years old, the time seems right for him to test himself on a bigger stage.
Aubameyang is currently in hospital as he recovers from malaria. In his absence, and even for large portions of the season when he has been available, Alexandre Lacazette has been covering for him up front.
But there are doubts over the Frenchman’s future. He finds himself in the same position Aubameyang was in a year ago, with just over 12 months left on his contract.
According to Het Laatste Nieuws, Yaremchuk could be an option to bolster their forward line. He is said to be available for transfer as long as Gent can receive €20m for his signature.
That should be within Arsenal’s grasp if they can sell Lacazette for a similar amount. However, their budget will depend on whether they can qualify for Europe.
