4/1/21: Opening Day Game Thread
Birds flying high, you know how I feel
Well, folks. We made it. Feelings are mixed on how much the 2020 baseball season “counted”. If you think it counts, it’s been a good five months since we had baseball. If you don’t think it counts, it’s been over a year and a half. Either way, it’s been far too long.
I don’t know about you, but personally, I’m excited to watch the Mariners for the first time since 2018. The core is almost here, and if a few of the guys currently on the team can surpass expectations, it feels like all bets are off.
In a sense, that’s what’s special about Opening Day. Fans of all 30 teams are able to convince themselves that their team has a shot. In two weeks, our hopes might be thoroughly dashed. But that’s a problem for two weeks from now.
For the first time in 2021, here are the lineups:
Marco Gonzales and Kevin Gausman are each solid pitchers in their own right, and each of these teams’ lineups find themselves with a little more to be desired. I smell a pitcher’s duel. I’ll be editing this game thread after the score hits 5-5.
