Warriors add Jordan Poole, Nico Mannion from G League
The Warriors have brought guards Jordan Poole and Nico Mannion back from the G League ahead of Wednesday night’s game in Portland, the team announced Monday.
Though the initial plan was for Poole, Mannion and teammate Alen Smailagic to complete the season with the Santa Cruz Warriors in the G League bubble near Orlando, Golden State decided to recall Poole and Mannion with two games remaining before the All-Star break.
Poole and Mannion will add depth behind Stephen Curry, which could be useful considering that point guard Brad Wanamaker has struggled this season. In 35 games, Wanamaker is averaging 4.8 points on 35.5% shooting (22.2% from 3-point range), 2.6 assists and 1.7 rebounds.
The No. 28 pick in the 2019 draft, Poole was billed as a shooting specialist but showed late in his rookie season that he could contribute as a playmaker. In the G League bubble, he thrived as the focal point of the offense and averaged 22.4 points, 4.6 assists and 5.3 rebounds in 11 games.
Mannion, who the Warriors took with the 48th pick in November, is a pure point guard and averaged 19.3 points, 6.8 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 1.8 steals in nine games with Santa Cruz.
