Why Does Russell Wilson Want to Be A Bear?
The fact that the Bears somehow landed on Russell Wilson’s shortlist of teams that he would accept a trade to means that Chicago should already be calling Seahawks GM John Schneider to see what can be done to make a deal. If the Bears can secure Wilson’s services, head coach Matt Nagy and general manager Ryan Pace have a good chance to extend their tenure with the organization.
Wilson would easily be the best quarterback in the modern era for the Bears if he made his way to the Windy City. He might even rival Sid Luckman as the greatest quarterback in their history. Luckman was a four-time first-team All-Pro from 1941 to 1944 who also led the NFL in touchdowns and passing yards on multiple occasions while leading Chicago to four NFL Championships in the 1940s. Though, the fact that the Bears have to go all the way back to the 1940s to find their last great quarterback further illuminates what Bears fans have had to endure since they last won a Super Bowl in 1986.
Chicago would still have plenty of areas to address, such as their offensive line, even if they managed to land Wilson. Last season, Mitch Trubisky and Nick Foles spent plenty of time on the ground after taking hits from opposing defenses.
Even though there are probably better teams in the league that would suit Wilson, the Bears can’t worry about that at the moment. They’ve just got to put together a package good enough to get the deal over the line.
