Boston Celtics vs. Atlanta Hawks Predictions and Picks
After backing the Hawks yesterday, I’ll look to play against them tonight when they host the Boston Celtics. Both teams lost last night, but the Hawks performance was most disappointing as they couldn’t hold a five-point lead with 2:50 left in the game against a Cavaliers team that was on a ten-game losing streak. One of my plays before the season was to fade the Hawks’ chances of making the playoffs. That ticket looks promising at the moment because this is an underwhelming Hawks team and last night’s home loss to the lowly Cavaliers proves just that.
The Celtics suffered a different type of heartbreak last night despite trailing for most of the game. They managed to tie the game on a Jaylen Brown layup only to watch Luka Doncic drain a 28-foot three-pointer with less than one second left in the game. Boston has had a string of close losses on this road trip as they also fell to the Pelicans in overtime 120-115 on Sunday. They’re now 15-16, one game below .500 after winning seven of their first ten games to start the season.
As for tonight’s game, I’m not going to expect much out of the Hawks. Both teams are on a back-to-back while also playing their third game in four days. However, the Celtics are the healthier team coming in with only two players listed on the injury report, while the Hawks have five players listed.
One player who I would be surprised to see take the court is John Collins. Collins had exited the game early due to a possible concussion, and even if it was just precautionary, it was serious enough that he didn’t reenter the game. Collins’ absence was notable throughout the game as the Hawks were almost restricted to being a jump-shooting team. The Wake Forest product is second on the team with 17.5 points per game, and if Collins doesn’t play tonight, it will be even tougher for a Hawks team that is already without De’Andre Hunter and his 17.2 points per game.
This is just a bad spot for the Hawks overall. The Celtics are on a 4-0 ATS as the visiting team in this matchup. This number seems short to me, and I can only look to lay the points with the road favorite.
The Pick: Celtics -3
