Republican Donald Trump did not respond to his fellow party members’ requests to address the protesters and urge them to stop during the January 6 riots at the US Congress building. This was reported on Friday by CNN, citing a telephone conversation between the 45th US president and the Republican minority leader in the House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy.
According to its reports, during the conversation, during which McCarthy urged Trump to reassure protesters, the latter replied, “Well, Kevin, I guess people are more upset about [the] election results than you are.”
As the channel notes, a number of Republican congressmen believe that the conversation showed the head of state’s complete unwillingness to stop his supporters seeking to break into the building of the highest legislative body.
On January 6, a group of Trump supporters stormed into Congress to prevent the results of the November 3, 2020 presidential election, which was won by Democrat Joe Biden. The crowd moved towards the Capitol after Trump addressed the rally outside the White House.
