US to review strategy for relations with North Korea
White House press secretary Jen Psaki has said that the new US administration, led by President Joe Biden, plans to prepare a new strategy towards North Korea and pursue a course of containment of Pyongyang
“The president’s views are undoubtedly that North Korea’s nuclear, missile and other proliferation activities of weapons of mass destruction and their means of delivery pose a serious threat to international peace and security and undermine the global non-proliferation regime. And we, of course, still have a key interest in containing North Korea, as, of course, does Japan”, – Psaki said.
She added that “we will adopt a new strategy to keep the American people and allies safe.”
“This approach will begin with a thorough review of the policy, the state of affairs as they relate to North Korea, which will be conducted alongside close consultation with South Korea, Japan and other allies on options for maintaining pressure on Pyongyang, as well as the potential for any future diplomacy”, – the US chief of staff explained.
“The US, as it has historically been, will work closely with partners in the region to determine the way forward and work together to contain the DPRK”, – Psaki added.
