He came under fire from the politics site Guido Fawkes, who tweeted: “Piers was publicly calling for Christmas to be cancelled and tougher restrictions.
“He flew to Antigua first class on Virgin before Christmas Day.”
However, Piers hit back, writing: “Hi Guido, Happy New Year. 1) The Govt said travel abroad from Tier 3 was allowed if people went straight to the airport.

“2) I didn’t call for Christmas to be cancelled. 3) I haven’t flown on Virgin for a year. 4) I last flew First Class in February. Otherwise, spot on!”
It was not until after Christmas that vast swathes of the UK were plunged into Tier 4 lockdown.
Piers announced on December 19 that he would be taking a break from Twitter, saying he was “done with 2020”.
He returned to Good Morning Britain, where he had last appeared in a pre-recorded Christmas Day show, on Monday 4 January.
