MOTM: Exiled William Saliba wins award in his 2nd appearance

William Saliba was voted OGC Nice’s Man of the Match in his second game for the club on Saturday, a 1-1 draw with FC Metz.

OGC Nice confirmed on their club website on Sunday morning that William Saliba had won their fan vote for Man of the Match against FC Metz. The Arsenal loan centre-back earned 43.2% of the vote, ahead of Youcef Atal (29.1%) in second place.

Saliba made four clearances, two interceptions and blocked a shot without being dribbled past once. He won four of his five individual duels and didn’t make any fouls, whilst completing 88% of his passes and three of four long balls.

It wasn’t a perfect performance, as he perhaps could’ve been slightly more alert to the danger as John Boye stole in behind him to score Metz’s equaliser. But overall, the performance was still enough to win him the Man of the Match vote.

After a similarly strong display on his debut for Nice – despite a poor team performance – it seems Saliba is settling back into first-team football well. If he can keep it up until the end of the season, Arsenal will be watching on with great interest.
