Mother ‘put baby on road – then dad hit infant with his car’
A mother set her baby down on a road moments before the infant’s dad drove off and struck the child, sheriff’s deputies say. Jamar Griffin, 45, allegedly drove off at speed after the argument with Brianna Morris, 26, in Cameron, North Carolina, on Sunday, striking the child, who was sitting in a car seat that had been placed in the path of the vehicle.
Morris, who is the baby’s mother, is said to have placed the seat on the road while remonstrating with her ex about their custody arrangement. Harnett County Sheriff’s Office said she set the baby down while she and her ex argued, only for him to become ‘frustrated with the argument’ and leave the scene ‘hastily’, allegedly hitting his youngster in the process.
Deputies arrived at the scene after paramedics, who were loading the baby into an ambulance to rush them to hospital. The youngster remains in hospital, but is expected to recover.
Morris and Griffin have both been charged with felony negligent child abuse, and causing serious bodily injury. Morris was arrested at the scene and has since been freed on $15,000 bond. Deputies have an arrest warrant out for Griffin, and have appealed for anyone with information on his whereabouts to get in touch.
