Piers Morgan left red-faced after his ‘disgusting’ Spitting Image puppet is revealed on the show
PIERS Morgan was left red-faced after his “disgusting” Spitting Image puppet was revealed on the show.
The presenter, 55, said he had waited all his life to become a puppet on the famous satirical show.
Piers Morgan wasn’t happy with the comparison[/caption]However, when he saw the puppet for the new series – which is returning to Britbox this weekend after 24 years – he was less than impressed.
Piers said: “I’ve waited all my adult life to have Spitting Image do a puppet of me and then last night I got sent the image. And I was like, ‘You know what, I could’ve waited another 40 years for this’.”
He joked: “As you can see it bears no relation to me whatsoever. Whatsoever!”
Speaking to Luke Kempner – who is voicing Piers – and Matt Forde – who voices Donald Trump and Boris Johnson – Piers said: “Right you evil little duo.
Piers labelled the puppet “disgusting”[/caption]“My mother just texted me saying, ‘I hope you remember you’ve got a mother watching this’. Have you remembered that?”
Luke replied: “Absolutely Piers. It’s a perfect homage to the great man. If there’s one person who thinks they should lampoon the most important people in the world, you’d think it’d be you.”
Later on, Piers called the puppet “disgusting” as he signed off from the interview.
The voice actor admitted to watching Good Morning Britain and Piers’ interview with Cristiano Ronaldo to get the Piers-isms down.
Donald Trump and Piers Morgan will be roasted on the show[/caption] The show takes aim at celebrities and public figures[/caption]Luke said: “We started working on Spitting Image a year ago and we were working out the characters that were going to be used.
“They said, ‘Luke, we want you to have a go at Piers Morgan’. And I can’t turn up a chance to have a go at Piers.
“So then we were watching Good Morning Britain every morning and it was one interview – it must have been awhile ago because it was a Tory representative – and you kept saying to him, ‘You can spin it any way you like!’
“And it was as soon as I got that sentence. ‘Nope, nope, you’ve been talking a lot of flannel’.
Kim Kardashian is one of the characters in their sights[/caption]“As soon as I got those sentences in, I just thought, I think I’ve got you down. And I don’t care if you don’t think I sound like you, because we’re the ones with the power.”
The satire show is making a comeback exclusively on streaming service BritBox and this time it’s going international with Brad Pitt, Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping puppets all lined-up to make an appearance.
Celebrated Spitting Image co-creator Roger Law revealed a team of artists have been working furiously during lockdown to create the instantly-recognisable puppets.
Heading up the writing team is multi-award winner Jeff Westbrook, best known for his work on The Simpsons and Futurama.

Among the voice artists set to mimic the many famous faces are Bad Girls actress Debra Stephenson and Game of Thrones star Indira Varma, with many more joining as the puppet cast grows.
The satirical TV show originally ran from 1984 to 1996 and featured Margaret Thatcher in a suit and the Queen Mother drinking gin.
Watched by 15 million viewers at its peak, it was once described as “a hybrid of Cambridge footlights, English caricature and Punch and Judy”.
Spitting Image is the first original commission from the digital video subscription service created by the BBC and ITV, BritBox.
