Zhan Kossobutskiy to face unbeaten American in October!
Earlier this month we reported that Unbeaten Kazakh Heavyweight hopeful Zhan Kossobutskiy (14-0, 13) [Жан Кособуцкий] was pencilled in to fight on October 17th in Hamburg, Germany. Originally the talk was for him to be potentially clashing with British born Belgian Joel Tambwe Djeko (17-2-1, 8).
Since then plans have changed and the only part of that plan that is still in effect is the date of the bout, with the location and opponent both changing.
What we now know, thanks to Vesti.Kz, is that Kossobutskiy will be fighting on October 17th in Dusseldorf, Germany, and instead of facing Djeko he will be up against unbeaten American James McKenzie Morrison (17-0-2, 15). We also know that the bout will be for Kossobutskiy's IBO Inter-Continental title and also, potentially, the IBF European title.
For Kossobutskiy the bout will be his third of 2020, and will see him looking to build on his August win over Kamil Sokolowski. It will also mark the second time he has fought in Germany as he looks to keep his career chugging along, despite the global situation.
As for Morrison the bout the bout will be his first title bout and his first bout outside of the US. So far his record has comprised of bouts against very, very limited opposition with the most notable being Galen Brown. He will be the clear under-dog though here against a man that some are tipping as the best Heavyweight from Kazakhstan.
Although not a big bout for either man it's the sort of fight that keeps Kossobutskiy busy and helps him move towards a bigger and better fight in the future.
