The best Mesh WiFi you can buy in 2020
IF YOU have a very big house or one with an unusual layout, you might benefit from one of the best mesh Wi-Fi systems to ensure you get a good connection everywhere in your home.
WiFi extenders have been used for many years, but they often are tricky to set up correctly.
They also typically create a separate SSID (name of a WiFi network), which is not a problem per se but can sometimes cause connection issues.
Mesh WiFi systems, on the other hand, are extremely easy to set up, and they share the same SSID, making the process of connecting multiple ones a very simple one.
On the downside, they can be more expensive than extenders, but the price is often justified by the advantages they provide over their older counterparts.
We have selected the best ones for you down below.

1. Google Nest Wifi
- (AD) Google Nest Wifi (2-pack), £229 from Amazon – buy here
When it comes to mesh systems, it’s hard to do better than Google.
The Nest offers extremely fast speeds, excellent range, and flawless integration with Google Assistant.
The range extenders also come in three different colours, which is a pleasant addition to the typical white of mesh systems.
Setting up is a breeze thanks to the Google Home app, and won’t take you longer than ten minutes for multiple access points.
2. Asus ZenWiFi AX (XT8)
- (AD) Asus ZenWiFi AX (2-pack), £399.99 from Amazon – buy here
The AX is a premium mesh system, and as such, it comes with a ton of wonderful features.
Parental control and AIProtection Pro are only some of them, and the mesh system provides many more through its extensive control panel.
This WiFi 6 device has three Gigabit Ethernet ports per satellite and one 2.5Gbps WAN port.
Its speeds and range are among the best you can find in a mesh system today, and that justifies the AX’s high price tag.
3. Netgear Orbi (RBK20, tri-band)
- Netgear Orbi (2-pack), £229.99 from Amazon – buy here
This tri-band mesh WiFi system has a quite powerful range of 3,000 sq ft and can connect up to 20 devices.
The Orbi devices feature a smart-switch option that will allow your smartphones and laptops to automatically connect to the nearest module as you move around.
Settings and installation are managed through the Circle app, through which you’ll be able to access several features like parenting control and internet security.
You can also pay extra for the premium version of the app that adds additional features.
4. Amazon eero Pro mesh Wi-Fi system
- Amazon eero Pro (3-pack), £429 from Amazon – buy here
Amazon’s take on mesh WiFi systems is one of elegance and straightforwardness.
The eero Pro has a beautifully simple design and app interface, and all you have to do to set it up is to plug it in.
Network performance is also solid, and managing your devices through the app is incredibly straightforward.
Given its extensive range (up to 560 sq.m with three devices), however, the eero Pro might be overkill for most flats, and we advise it only if you have a big house.
And since the eero Pro is ultimately an Amazon device, connecting it to the Echo and other Alexa devices is also a piece of cake.
5. TP-Link Deco M9 Plus Mesh Wi-Fi
- TP-Link Deco M9 Plus (3-pack), £328.65 from Amazon – buy here
The Deco M9 Plus is a mesh system whose features focus on security.
Malicious Content Filter, Intrusion Prevention System and Infected Device Quarantine are only some of the tools that make the Deco M9 Plus the most secure mesh system in this list.
In terms of speed and range, the TP-Link device is slightly below average in this price range.
However, the device’ setting up via the TP-Link’s Deco app is very intuitive, making the M9 Plus a very solid option.
