Man charged after OAP ‘mowed down and killed’ on her way to the shops by quad bike ‘which mounted pavement’
A MAN has been charged after a pensioner was allegedly mowed down and killed when a quad bike mounted the pavement as she walked to the shops.
Margaret Meldrum, 75, died yards from her home in Knightswood, Glasgow, in July last year.
Police Scotland said a 24-year-old man has now been charged in connection with her death and appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Friday.
Pals said Margaret had been walking back to her local shops after forgetting an item off her shopping list when the collision occurred.
A friend who lives nearby said at the time: “Margaret was a lovely woman. She was just coming back from picking up her messages when it all happened.
“She told me she had forgotten something so had to head back to the shop.
“I went back inside and shortly after there was a huge bang and she was just lying there. It’s so sad because if she hadn’t gone back to get the extra shopping, it could have been different.”
Margaret and her devoted husband Billy were hailed the “grandparent” figures of their community by another local.
