UFC ring girl goes from octagons to painting Tom Brady artwork for Fanatics, woke concerts & college football

Welcome to Screencaps, "America's Best Daily Column," as named by the readers. Screencaps, which publishes seven-days-a-week, is a mix of sports, pop culture, and emails from sane readers from around the world. This column isn't for the coastal elites. Give us a week to steal your heart. Our track record is pretty good. Let's have some fun.

I have to give Brittney Palmer credit. After a 16-year career walking around UFC octagons for so many Saturday nights, there comes a point where a ring girl knows she has lost a step and needs to pivot. Then comes retirement. For many of these women, there's no senior circuit for ring girls. There's no Senior PGA Tour.

Some turn to OnlyFans to keep the lights on. The easy way out.

It's true, Palmer has any OnlyFans account, but she's also one of the hottest sports artists in the United States right now. She's making art on OF and designing baseball cards for Topps and is now even creating artwork on NFL jerseys for a Fanatics project called Under Wraps where fans pay $500 or more to buy a mystery jersey box.

Someone will walk away with this piece of art - from a UFC legend.

• Adam in Nebraska checks in: Give me 80s/90s college football. Give me 80s/90s Wendy’s

Years from now I’m gonna be more fired up for Maction, and MTN west than any SEC/ BTN Saturday in October. We cannot lose what football meant to this country.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL RATINGS ARE DOWN DOUBLE DIGITS SO FAR THIS SEASON

• Galen in Sunset Beach, NC is ready for the third Saturday in October: A sacred day in the South today…The Third Saturday In October! The historic day that pits the Tennessee Volunteers vs the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Ironically, it was 56 years ago on this very date! I was with my Dad and we won 24-0. That was the last time the two teams wore their home jerseys for the game. 56 years later, they are doing it again today. Should be quite a spectacle! Go Vols!

• Lee D. in Tampa is frustrated over the 24-team playoff: Well, the suits killed the golden goose. Nothing like watching Tulane vs. Iowa. This guy won't be watching that. Just like I have yet to watch a play-in game (no offense to Dayton) in the NCAA tournament (64 teams was the sweet spot), I have no interest in watching Liberty vs. Ole Miss or SMU vs. Indiana. They can have their playoff games. Doesn't mean I have to watch.

When the playoffs get down to the quarterfinals, then I'll start paying attention. This is what happens when a major conference hires a network suit with a baseball background to run things. Go google "Tony Petitti" and watch what pops up. It's not Tony Petitti, Big Ten commissioner, it's "Tony Petitti, television producer." Think it was back in the summer at B1G football media days that he was visibly astonished why fans wouldn't want more playoff games and he openly touted how college football should be like baseball and basically double the number of playoff games.

Dude, did you even watch last year's first round games? No one who saw those box scores would demand more of the same, or worse. The BCS had the number of playoff games right (eight). They just weren't smart enough to use that format as a quarterfinal round. What would have been better is if the B1G and SEC decided to have a four-team playoff for the conference title. Those are games that fans would want to watch and all the TV suits would be happy with the eyeballs.

Yeah, trade the conference title games for James Madison vs. Oregon (and more FCS vs. B1G/SEC games to open the season). What a friggin' trainwreck! ... as for Elon Musk's new flying car, this makes Kirby Smart very nervous.

• Brad S. on woke concerts: Back in 1979, the 'cause célèbre' of the week was No Nukes. (I think it fell between the Acid Rain and Ozone Hole movements.) Of course, they had a big concert in Central Park to 'raise awareness' (read: sell albums).

Anyway, Jackson Browne was a part of that concert and toured soon after that. One of his stops was the Assembly Hall at the University of Illinois.

It became apparent that neither the singer nor his staff did any research as to the where he was playing, because they would have discovered the U of I has a huge Engineering College and one of the top Nuclear Engineering programs in the world.

Well, about four songs in, Jackson Browne decides to start his spiel about 'No Nukes' and how there was a nuke plant near Champaign, and everyone should 'duck and cover' or some crap like that. (The Clinton Nuclear plant is about 40 miles west of the campus.)

GOO GOO DOLLS' JOHN RZEZNIK DRAWS LINE ON POLITICS AT CONCERTS: 'I'M NOT GOING TO LECTURE YOU'

After about three minutes, someone from the crowd yelled, "Shut up and sing!" and it got a huge round of applause. Jackson Browne looked visibly pissed off! He played the rest of the show, but did not utter another word! This should be the proper way to handle things, whenever these idiot artists decide to rant.

Mrs. Screencaps lit up this morning over this question. I'm talking a deep dive into the memories of her life. Here at our house, we typically pile up the coats on a living room chair that is sacrificed instead of people trudging upstairs to drop a coat.

But there's something about that memory deep in all of our brains of going into your grandmother's bedroom to get the coats before leaving.

According to Gemini, the coat thing dates back to the 19th century when there were dedicated spaces in houses for guests to "de-layer," as the historians call it. The coat thing would evolve. Etiquette writers told women in the 1920s to instruct female guests to de-layer in dressing rooms, typically on the second level. Men were not expected to de-layer upstairs. Eventually, the WWII veterans bought one-story houses in the suburbs and the de-layering tradition was modified to what many of us still do today.

There you go. When people de-layer in your bedroom before card night, they're keeping a 19th century tradition alive.

• Homebrew Bill in Nebraska checks in on the topic of having people over in 2026: Wanted to chime in on this topic. I'm guessing there are others in the group in the same boat. We live in a decent neighborhood and have really good friends right next door and are friendly with a half-dozen other neighbors. We hardly ever host anymore or go anywhere primarily because my wife is a bit OCD and is very introverted.

Keep in mind, it's not that our house is unkempt. Our best friends next door know that and they've seen our home "lived in". But if we do invite them over my wife thinks everything needs to be done like we're listing the house for a realtor. On the rare occasions I have friend(s) over for a beer I get grief because there might be dog hair in the basement. Most of the time those meetings occur in the garage where the keg fridge is.

It's frustrating at times.

• Mark from NC seems to hate people: I think the TV show "Friends" was the worst TV in history….and I’ve never watched one episode.  If you’re that age, and you’re hanging out in someone else’s living room, you’ve yet to assume adult responsibilities…..like being married, having kids, having a job.  I haven’t hung out at someone else house since maybe a few times in my 20’s and that was over 40 years ago. If someone even thinks about coming to my house, I’ll be sure to hear from my wife "Don’t let them in the house."

• Phil in Florida likes to pack his house: I personally love having people over. I don’t have to drive, the party ends when I want it to, and I usually am left with fuller beer fridge than before I started. Also fun things happen, like when I had 1 friend come over, then her roommate, then roommate’s friends, and before you know it my girlfriend came home to a house full of people that she didn’t know, all having a great time. I was in so much trouble after everyone left. My mom’s side of the family is excellent at these type of shenanigans as well. I will forever carry with me the morning I found myself smoking a cigarette in my parent’s lanai putting together the pieces of the night before, when my sister walked outside and I asked her "Did grandma die yesterday and then we threw a huge rager?" She said "Yes, that is exactly what happened." If there is a room containing a bed for you, and has a door, hell yeah, have people over. You can’t tell stories about not having people over. I will refrain from discussing the Bears or anything Chicago. We don’t wanna talk right now. Have a good one

• Scott in Rocky Point, NY puts it all in perspective: Officially, I'm a 51 yr old Dodgers fan. Family was hauled to Lake Havasu, AZ in 1975 and the only baseball we watched was Dodger baseball (out of a Vegas TV channel). So, became a Dodgers fan. So many highs, so many lows. Garvey, Cey, Lopes, Russell infield. Fernando Valenzuela. Almost busting my hand on the ceiling watching Kirk Gibson's HR off Eckersley. Mr. October beating Dodgers. Dodgers beating Yankees in '24. Machado failure. Piazza. Etc. Etc. Etc.

But, even though a huge Dodgers fan, I'm an equal baseball fan. Played it and dreamt of a future in it. Don't hate teams (except for those evil Braves).

My take on this year's Dodgers' exit - sucks but well deserved series sweep by the Brewers. A team that played as a team and won as a team. Had that "feeling" early on game one that it just wasn't happening for my Dodgers. And when an entire team are playing poorly, the writing was on the wall. And seeing how the Brewers were playing, that's what makes baseball, baseball. Fun to see a team that hasn't been to the series in 44 years. I don't care about large market teams vs small market teams, that's for the bean counters and "never played the game" dorks. While MLB and the networks airing the WS want large market teams ($$$), this World Series (guessing Brewers v Guardians) will be fun to watch. I'm going with Brewers taking it all and last game being in Milwaukee to give their fans what they've been missing.

That's it for this Saturday morning with temps in the low 40s. We're heading for the low 50s with bright blue skies. I'm off to a soccer game followed by the Ohio State game and whatever else I can get into with the kids. After tomorrow's day off, I face another 13-day Screencaps run.

It's time to make this weekend count. Have a great one.
