68-year-old used only cheques, never activated ATM, yet Rs 1.59 lakh was withdrawn through AePS without his knowledge; consumer court tells SBI to refund with 9% interest
A 68-year-old account holder was unjustly deprived of Rs 1,59,999 due to unauthorized transactions. The State Bank of India failed to prevent these fraudulent withdrawals from his savings account. After the complainant approached the bank and cyber crime cell, an inquiry indicated bank personnel's involvement in the transactions. The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission ruled in favor of the complainant, holding the bank liable.
