Aaron Rodgers’ famous exes from Shailene Woodley to the romance that sent him into a 'tailspin'

Aaron Rodgers’ love life has taken him from Hollywood romances and a broken engagement to a secret wedding years in the making.

Rodgers’ road to marriage was anything but a straight line. After high-profile romances with Olivia Munn, Danica Patrick and Shailene Woodley, the NFL star ultimately found his way back to the woman he says he regretted letting go years earlier.

The now 42-year-old football star's dating life began drawing celebrity-media attention in the late 2000s and early 2010s. Actress Jessica Szohr was among his earliest well-documented Hollywood connections, but his relationships became substantially more public once he began dating Munn in 2014.

The "Gossip Girl" star and Rodgers had an on-and-off relationship in the early 2010s. Szohr and the quarterback were first linked in 2011, after being spotted publicly together. The former couple initially ended things because of their busy schedules.

The two reportedly rekindled their relationship in 2014 before calling it quits again.

Their romance preceded Rodgers’ more heavily publicized relationships, and the pair appeared to remain on friendly terms afterward.

While there aren't many public details about the couple's rumored relationship, People reported Szohr later attended Rodgers’ birthday party in 2017.

Rodgers met Olivia Munn while presenting the Song of the Year award at the ACM Awards in 2014. Their relationship quickly became one of his most high-profile romances.

While both had busy schedules, Munn explained how the two made it work.

"There’s a lot of traveling, a lot of driving, and then you’re just really happy with the decisions that you make. And for me, it comes at a time in my life when I end up having to say no to some work because I gotta be somewhere else. It doesn’t make me sad or anything, because I want my life to be full and have all those experiences, so you kind of figure it out as you go," she told E! News in 2014.

Engagement rumors between the two began to surface in 2016 and Munn even stepped out with a ruby on her ring finger. However, the two called it quits just a few months later.

"When you are living out a relationship in the public eye, it’s definitely … it’s difficult. It has some extra constraints, because you have other opinions about your relationship, how it affects your work and, you know, just some inappropriate connections," Rodgers told ESPN shortly after the breakup.

During their relationship, it became public that Rodgers was estranged from his family, and many of his fans blamed Munn for the rift.

"There's this whole big narrative that stayed with me for so many years, but there was just this dynamic in the family that had nothing to do with me. It became this whole big thing, and people were like, "I can't with her, she's keeping this family apart,'" Munn said during a 2025 appearance on the "Armchair Expert" podcast.

In Ian O'Connor’s 2024 biography "Out of the Darkness: The Mystery of Aaron Rodgers," Rodgers shared that the cause of the schism was "deep-rooted." He also clarified that Munn "had nothing to do all the years" of prior estrangement.

Rodgers traded Hollywood glamour for racing royalty when he began dating Danica Patrick.

The former IndyCar and NASCAR star confirmed their romance in January 2018, years after the two had initially crossed paths at the ESPYs. The two had actually kept in touch via email before sparks flew.

"We kept in touch a little bit, and there were some years we didn’t talk to each other, and then some every now and again, but it wasn’t until obviously recently that we actually had phone numbers. We referred to each other as Chicago and Green Bay – it was very cute," Patrick told Jenny McCarthy on her SiriusXM show.

The relationship quickly became serious and highly visible, with the pair making public appearances and Rodgers openly discussing their life together.

"We’re just two people who enjoy being around each other and love each other," he told Artful Living in 2018. "We’re really into each other … we’re really attracted to each other … we really enjoy traveling … She’s up for anything travel-wise, which is fun. She’s a good travel partner because she’s so laid-back and low-maintenance. And she’s a hell of a cook, so we love just staying in, too. She eats really healthy. She’s inspired me in that way."

But there would be no trip down the aisle: after more than two years as a couple, Patrick's representative confirmed their split in July 2020.

In a 2025 appearance on "The Sage Steele Show," Patrick spoke about her time with Rodgers, claiming that "the nature of the relationship was emotionally abusive."

"He leaves a trail of blood," she said, later adding, "It gave me the greatest gift, the greatest gift, which is myself. It gave me the greatest gift of how much I needed to show up for myself and take care of myself."

On a recent episode of "Not Just Football with Cam Heyward," Rodgers shared his side of the story, saying, "I dated Danica. She had just retired. She was depressed and not fun to be around. But I didn’t leave her because I was trying to be there and be a good partner. Then it was going a certain direction, obviously. There was no intimacy; there was nothing."

"She tells a story that she was so blindsided … and that ‘he leaves a trail of blood around him.’ And I’m like, what are you talking about? That is not what happened, by any means."

If Rodgers’ previous romances generated headlines, his whirlwind relationship with Shailene Woodley took things to another level.

Speculation the two were romantically linked first surfaced in 2020, but by February 2021, Rodgers stunned fans by revealing he was engaged while accepting his third NFL MVP award.

Woodley soon confirmed she was the mystery fiancée.

But the fairy-tale ending never arrived. Their engagement unraveled, and the pair ultimately separated in 2022 after attempts at reconciliation. The breakup has remained a subject of public discussion: Woodley has spoken about experiencing a deeply difficult period around that time, while Rodgers offered his own sharply different account of their relationship and split in September 2026.

On Heyward's podcast, Rodgers explained that he didn't "ruin" the actress's life during their 2022 split. "I proposed to Shailene and she said yes. Now, she maybe felt like she was forced to make a decision. She could have said no," Rodgers began.

"A couple days after that, she tells me, 'Before we get married, I gotta go f--- this guy,' and I’m like – because her story is that I ruined her life and gave her crazy depression because I left her. But in actuality, she told me that, and then she took off the ring by March – I proposed in December – and we had a couple of times where we tried to get reunited and nothing ever happened," he said.

"There wasn’t even a relationship in 2022 to break off. She literally told me, 'I don’t want to be with you' after we tried some reconciliation in 2021. There’s just a lot of narrative out there that isn’t true," Rodgers clarified.

Woodley has not responded to Rodgers' claims.

After years of very public romances, Rodgers ultimately married someone who has made a point of staying almost completely out of the spotlight.

Rodgers revealed in June 2025 that he was a married man and later identified his wife only as Brittani.

"In 2017, I met my wife, and at the time, she was leaving the States and going back to Europe," he told Heyward on the September podcast. "And my biggest regret is not begging her to stay or proposing right there, because that sent me right there into a tailspin of what can I be accused of as a partner in a relationship."

The NFL star explained he met Brittani while she was living in Austin after attending The University of Texas. After the two didn't work out, she moved back to Europe before they reconnected years later.

"She was engaged, then I got engaged, and luckily, for me, we came back together," he said.

The couple quietly eloped in 2025, with Rodgers deliberately keeping his new wife away from the celebrity circus that surrounded his previous relationships. And the notoriously private quarterback is already looking toward their next chapter: Rodgers said in September 2026 that he hopes fatherhood is in his future after football.
