Pittsburgh youth football coach loses his mind & fights opposing coaches, Maria Sharapova at the beach & Flair

If Monday Screencaps seems a little off, it's because I am working at about 55% this morning after coming down with whatever these kids brought into this house from school. I'm talking down for the count Saturday night. That led into a brutal Sunday with all the symptoms that comes with this crap.

But, it's not enough to call in sick. Uncomfortable? No doubt. Bad enough to pass up pumping out an edition of America's Best Daily Column, as named by the readers? No.

In better news, I can report that Screencaps Jr. has officially broken the 12-minute mark in his cross country career. In Saturday's race, he went 11:45:30 and finished 6th out of 238 runners. That's 30 seconds off his previous personal best. Jr.'s team finished first and our top runner clocked a 10:49.60, which was two seconds off the school record. It looks like they'll have a pretty good season.

WISCONSIN PARENT STORMS FIELD DURING YOUTH FOOTBALL GAME AND TRIPS 9-YEAR-OLD KID IN WILD SCENE

In other youth sports news, did you see this unhinged youth football coach lose his mind this weekend in Pittsburgh? "Its the 4th quarter, we're down 7-0 with 3:00 min left with the ball and a chance to tie the game, then this happens," the video uploader, Ryan Crux, wrote on Facebook. "The coaches are (100)% blame for this loss after they forfeit smh. Never thought i would have to protect my son from youth football coaches but here we are."

You know what we didn't see at cross country this weekend? Drama. There wasn't a single mom yelling "Get the kids!" at the invitational.

We were fortunate enough to receive a flyer from Screencaps Jr. over the weekend announcing the 8th grade D.C. trip. Guess how you find out the dates and the cost? Yep, you have to scan a QR code that opens up a website that then wants you to authorize cookies on your phone.

JUST GIVE ME THE F-ING DETAILS ON A FLYER WITHOUT MAKING ME JUMP THROUGH HOOPS.

I didn't agree to the cookies, but I did find out that the $1,500 includes hotel for three nights, bus trip, admissions and "All Meals (unless otherwise stated).

If that price seems high, have no fear. WorldStrides, who organizes the trip, promises that it will provide families with "shareable Facebook links students can send the friends and family" to beg for money.

LINDA COHN, ONE OF THE FEW SPORTSCENTER ANCHORS WHO ALWAYS PUT THE FAN FIRST, SET TO RETIRE FROM ESPN

– Lee D. in Tampa emails: I dunno, this made me want to puke. Years ago the talking heads at ESPN apparently had a near-revolt against their Disney overlords for installing a news ticker crawl (which the four-letter is finally getting rid of -- it morphed into something used mainly for selling, not informing). Why was there unrest among the anchors?

The ticker might dilute THEIR airtime and might ruin THEIR "setup" or THEIR "clever line." You know, the same kind of bad one-liner that would otherwise get a guy (girl?) chased out of a local ChuckleHut in Kingman, Ariz.

And seriously, 30 years ago when folks did watch SportsCenter for news, who the hell watched it for Linda Cohn? Did you ever meet anyone who said, "My day is ruined if I don't catch Linda Cohn tonight. She's so good!" I have never met one person who turned on ESPN for Linda Cohn. Maybe turned the channel because of Linda Cohn, but never tuned in because of Linda Cohn.

The arrogance of both this interview, and the blow-drys on national TV in general, is staggering, but not really surprising. It's not about information with these people, it's about THEIR egos.

– Mike N. says: I caught the last inning of the LLWS 3rd place game on Sunday. Japan was down 0-2, runners on 1st & 3rd, 1 out, and a little kid from Japan gets a base hit and scores a run. Standing on 1st base the kid begins to cry. First thing that comes to my head is I hope he's not crying because he knows he has avoided a beating tonight from his chain-smoking dad who never accomplished anything in his life. The raw emotion after "a success" during the middle of any sporting event seems rare at any age. It had me rooting for him. Interested on your thoughts. Hope the CC meeting went well for you guys on Saturday. Here's to the Greatest Column in the Land!

Kinsey: It might've been his first hit of the tournament. Or he's crying because this dream summer in the U.S. is over. I have to be honest, I didn't catch any of it because I was on the couch trying to sleep off this flu or whatever I have.

– Mark in Bismarck, ND checks in: Never going to watch Nascar live on NBC. It's like trying to watch a game you've been waiting for and having your wife and 5 of her friends all talking at the same time and having 6 first graders standing in front of the TV trying to show you what they drew in class and you have a small window in the middle to try and watch through.

Too much noise and way too busy on the screen.

Kinsey: I have nothing against Leigh Diffey as a human, I just can't sit there and watch NASCAR and listen to his Australian accent on NBC. My brain has been trained to associate NASCAR with Mike Joy's voice.

– Mike T. in Idaho gives us an update: We have a very busy year ahead of us, Cindy T is in full TGC ( Tour guide Cindy) mode. Fall trip over the Canadian Rocky’s, through Montana to Yellowstone and Grand Tetons. Down through Colorado to visit family and SLC to home, 3 weeks. Winter trip Italy, France and Spain, some new places and revisit some favorite places! 90 days, the EU is saying they are enforcing Visa requirements of any longer stay. Cindy T and I are playing the Amen corner of life and will aim for every flag on the way to the clubhouse!

I apologize if this image from Mike P. doesn't load. It's a Facebook embed showing Christmas trees for sale at Costco. You know it's coming, but it's always so startling to see this in August when we're not even to Labor Day weekend.

######################

And with that, I'm done this morning. Let's go out and have a great day.
