Suspended Alyssa Thomas receives support from teammate & coach after cheap shot on Caitlin Clark
If you need any more convincing that the WNBA is full of some of the most hateful and delusional athletes and coaches in professional sports, I have the proof. A teammate of Phoenix Mercury star Alyssa Thomas, who was suspended for, as the WNBA announced on Thursday, "recklessly making contact with her fist to the throat area of Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark," and Mercury Associate Head Coach, Kristi Toliver, both came to her defense with posts online.
Mack took to Threads, the second-most liberal social media site only behind Bluesky, to show support for Thomas. She wrote, "It’s FREE AT until AT FREE!! standing with my bestie."
You have to be out of your mind if you’re going to make a social justice-esque post about your teammate, who looked more like a thug jumping an innocent woman in a dark alley, than a basketball player. There’s absolutely no defense for Thomas’ actions, but we do live in a world where millions have defended Karmelo Anthony for murdering Austin Metcalf, so not much surprises me nowadays.

Toliver went further in her Instagram Story post on Thursday, shortly after the news of the suspension went public, with a photo of her and Thomas, accompanied by the caption: "When they go low, we go high - Michelle Obama."
For context, this is a quote from Michelle Obama’s speech during the 2016 Democratic National Convention, where she was endorsing Hilary Clinton and shaming Donald Trump. The full quote in context shows just how insane it is to use this quote for this specific situation. The former First Lady said, "That is what Barack and I think about every day as we try to guide and protect our girls through the challenges of this unusual life in the spotlight… How we insist that the hateful language they hear from public figures on TV does not represent the true spirit of this country. How we explain that when someone is cruel, or acts like a bully, you don’t stoop to their level -– no, our motto is, when they go low, we go high."

Thomas punched Clark in the throat & kneed her in the groin, but Toliver wants the public to believe that Thomas is the victim. This level of delusion must be studied.
Dallas Wings forward, DiJonai Carrington, who was Thomas’ teammate when they played for the Connecticut Sun in 2024, has unsurprisingly come to Thomas’ defense as well through multiple reposts on her X account. One post stated "why wasn’t this also a suspension?" when referring to Sophie Cunningham’s flagrant 2 foul on Connecticut's Jacy Sheldon, after Caitlin Clark was poked in the eye by Sheldon and then cheap shotted by Marina Mabrey moments before. If she did an ounce of research, she would know there was a clear difference between the two plays. Cunningham was ejected from the game, while Thomas was never assessed a personal foul or flagrant foul in game. The suspension and upgrade to a flagrant 2 foul was after league review.
She also reposted a clip of the flagrant foul that led to Thomas’ suspension accompanied by the caption, "Let’s show the Alyssa Thomas clip in real time…" Of course, the clip doesn’t show any other angles, nor does it show the slow-motion clips that show why this suspension was justified.
In case you forgot, Carrington has attacked Caitlin Clark since she entered the league. She poked Clark in the eye in 2024 WNBA Playoffs and falsely claimed that Clark’s fans "justify racism, bigotry, misogyny, xenophobia, homophobia & the intersectionalities of them." She and Thomas also claimed that Indiana Fever fans were racist in that same playoff series. Thomas stated in a postgame interview, with Carrington by her side, "In my 11-year career, I’ve never experienced the racial comments from the Indiana Fever fanbase."
Only in the WNBA will you see a league, players and coaches go out of their way to sabotage their newfound success, while trying to injure and shame the only reason their names are known. Also, why they now fly private, why there was a historic new CBA signed -- making them more money than they could have ever imagined in the WNBA, and more.
Caitlin Clark has been cheap-shotted and vilified since she entered the league. She’s a punching bag for a league full of jealous, hateful, race-obsessed, lesbian women. From my assessment, they can’t stand that a straight, white woman from rural America is the face of their league. The league needs to do a better job protecting their golden goose. There’s no excuse for this thug-like behavior on the court. It’s bad for the game and has been detrimental to Clark’s health, who is now ruled out of Saturday’s game against the Los Angeles Sparks, according to head coach Stephanie White speaking with the media Friday.
