The Montreal Canadiens got a split on the road to start their second-round playoff series against the Buffalo Sabres with a 5-1 win in Game 2 on Friday night at KeyBank Center.

Tage Thompson blew a tire and Alexandre Carrier took the puck down the ice himself before beating Alex Lyon. 4-1 Canadiens
Second Period: Newhook again
With 38 seconds left in the period, Zachary Benson finally solved Jakub Dobes to put the Sabres on the board. 3-1 Canadiens
After killing a penalty, Alex Newhook scored his second goal of the night to give the Habs a three-goal lead. Noah Dobson got his first point of the postseason. 3-0 Canadiens
Ivan Demidov left for the dressing room after getting hit hard by Jordan Greenway on the Habs’ power play. Demidov returned to the bench.

Off the draw won by Phillip Danault, defenceman Mike Matheson beat Alex Lyon with a point shot. 2-0 Canadiens
Alex Newhook opened scoring with his second goal of the playoffs at 1:36. It was on the first shot of the game. 1-0 Canadiens
