Former aide suggests a doomsday plan exists and Trump may be ready to use it
Former Homeland Security Chief of Staff Miles Taylor warned Friday that President Donald Trump may invoke a secret "Doomsday Book" containing pre-drafted executive orders hidden in a secure White House location.
Created under the Eisenhower administration to maintain government continuity following a nuclear attack, the book grants presidential powers to censor the press, detain civilians, suspend communications, and enact martial law.
In a report published in The i Paper, Taylor wrote that during Trump's first term he believed the president did not fully understand these capabilities, noting Trump once referred to his "magical authorities" to bypass legal constraints. However, Taylor expressed alarm, suggesting Trump now appears aware of and willing to exploit these powers.
"Three years ago, my concern was that Trump did not fully appreciate the powers he might abuse," Taylor wrote.
"Today, my concern is that he's decided to do so."
Taylor stressed the situation represents a genuine threat to American democracy.
