Insiders Claim Kate Middleton Is Trying to Evade Princess Diana Comparisons in Her New Era
Despite Catherine, Princess of Wales, also known as Kate Middleton, being one of the faces of the British Royal Family, it seems she may never end up doing something the late Princess Diana did: attend the Met Gala. While Kate is no stranger to the Diana comparisons, and even dons her jewelry, it seems she may be avoiding the Met Gala to get the ultimate comparison.
According to a report on Rob Shuter’s Naughty But Nice Substack, insiders claimed that despite Anna Wintour’s persistence, Kate didn’t show up (and probably won’t).
“Kate understood exactly what was being asked,” a palace source told Shuter. “This was not simply an invitation. It was an attempt to make her the defining image of the night — and she had no interest in playing that role… She was never going to turn herself — or Diana — into a Met Gala moment.”

The last time a member of the British royal family attended the Met Gala was in 2018, when Beatrice, Princess of York, arrived in a purple Alberta Ferretti gown for the Met Gala theme “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion & The Catholic Imagination.”
And most notably, the time before that was when Diana wowed at the 1996 Met Gala in a navy figure-hugging John Galliano for Dior dress, all for the theme of “Christian Dior.”
While other royals have attended, it seems unlikely that Kate will ever attend.
