Trump says Iran must hand over enriched uranium to US
US President Donald Trump said Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium should be transferred to the United States as part of a proposed deal between Washington and Tehran, adding that the issue is a key condition in ongoing negotiations.
US President Donald Trump has said that Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium must be transferred to the United States under a proposed framework agreement currently under discussion between Washington and Tehran.
Speaking at the White House on Wednesday, May 6, Trump told reporters that the United States would take control of the material, saying: “We will have it,” while indicating that the transfer could form a central condition of any potential deal.
Trump said there was a “high probability” of reaching an agreement with Iran ahead of his planned visit to China next week, though he acknowledged that the negotiations remain ongoing and no final deal has been reached.
He also said that the uranium transfer is one of the key issues being discussed in the proposed agreement and suggested that the measure may be included as part of broader nuclear-related arrangements between the two sides.
At the same time, Trump warned that if Iran rejects the US proposal, Washington would consider military options, adding that “stronger attacks” could follow in response to any breakdown in talks.
The comments come as the United States and Iran continue indirect negotiations aimed at reducing tensions over Iran’s nuclear programme and broader regional security concerns.
