Trump says US–Iran talks make “very good progress,” deal “highly likely”
US President Donald Trump says American and Iranian representatives have held “very good talks” and that a potential agreement is “highly likely,” while Tehran says a US proposal remains under review.
US President Donald Trump has said that American and Iranian representatives have held “very good talks” and that a potential agreement between the two sides is “highly likely,” signalling what he described as significant progress in ongoing negotiations.
Iran, however, said the US proposal remains under review and that it will respond through Pakistani mediators once it has finalised its internal assessment.
Trump also said Washington has agreed to temporarily pause a US maritime operation in the Strait of Hormuz that involved escorting commercial vessels, a move he linked to ongoing diplomatic efforts.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the decision to pause the operation was made at Pakistan’s request, allowing time to determine whether a final agreement between Washington and Tehran can be completed and signed.
He said both sides had made “major progress” toward a comprehensive deal, but added that it remains uncertain whether an agreement will ultimately be reached.
Trump also said the United States had achieved “major success” in what he described as its ongoing military campaign against Iran, while insisting that maritime pressure and restrictions on Iranian ports would continue “with full force and impact.”
