China calls for immediate and full ceasefire amid Iran–US tensions
China has called for an immediate and full ceasefire in the region, urging restraint and renewed dialogue as tensions between Iran and the United States remain unresolved, its UN envoy said.
China has called for an immediate and full ceasefire in the region, urging all parties to de-escalate tensions and return to diplomatic engagement as the Iran–US standoff continues without a final agreement.
China’s UN envoy Xie Feng said in a post on X on Wednesday, May 6, that Beijing reiterated its position during a meeting between Chinese officials and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Beijing.
He said Chinese officials warned that the situation has reached a “critical point” and stressed that dialogue must take priority over further escalation.
Beijing called for a reduction in tensions, an end to hostilities, and the launch of peace talks, adding that it would continue to support diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring stability in the region.
The comments come as Iran and the United States remain locked in unresolved negotiations, with diplomatic efforts ongoing but no final settlement reached to end the conflict or define a lasting framework for peace.
