FBI searches Virginia Senate leader’s office in corruption probe
Federal agents from the FBI have executed search warrants at the Portsmouth office of Virginia Senate President Pro Tempore L. Louise Lucas as part of an ongoing corruption investigation, according to Fox News and sources familiar with the matter.
The warrants, approved by a federal judge, were served at multiple locations, including Lucas’s legislative office in Virginia. Investigators also searched a nearby cannabis dispensary, though authorities have not confirmed how it is connected to the probe.
The nature of the evidence being sought has not been disclosed, and no charges have been announced in connection with the investigation.
Lucas, a Democrat and senior member of the Virginia Senate, responded on X, saying the federal action “is about far more than one state senator” and accusing officials of attempting to “intimidate and silence” political voices. She added that she would “keep fighting” for her constituents in Portsmouth and the state of Virginia.
Virginia Attorney General Jay Jones said there was not yet sufficient information about the FBI activity and urged caution until facts are confirmed.
Representative Bobby Scott said the raid should be viewed in the broader political context, while also noting that full details of the investigation are not yet known.
