Robin van Persie wants to see Tottenham fail with 25-goal striker pursuit
Feyenoord manager Robin van Persie has reacted to reports linking one of his key players with a move to Tottenham and other Premier League clubs.
With the summer window fast approaching, speculation regarding Spurs’ summer targets is now intensifying, even though the Lilywhites are still not assured of their place in the Premier League next season.
Reports indicate that Tottenham have formulated two plans for the summer window, depending on whether they avoid relegation.
With some of the biggest clubs in Europe circling stars, De Zerbi will be aware that his squad may be completely disbanded if he fails to keep the club in the top flight.
Robin van Persie reacts to rumours linking Ayase Ueda with a move to Tottenham
Tottenham are expected to reinforce their forward line this summer ahead of De Zerbi’s first full season in charge, and reports over recent days have indicated that Spurs have done plenty of checks on Feyenoord striker Ayase Ueda.
The centre-forward has been prolific for the Dutch club this season, with 25 goals in 29 Eredivisie appearances, and Van Persie has now confessed that he has no idea if the Japan international will still be at Rotterdam next season.
When asked about the speculation linking Ueda with a move to the Premier League, the Feyenoord boss told 1908: “From my point of view, I hope he is there next year. He is super important for us and within our style of play.
“He started very well, then had a somewhat weaker period, and we talked about that as well. It is nice to see that he bounced back from that; it also speaks volumes about his character.
“From his perspective, it might be a good time to make a move, but that is not up to me. I have no idea if that is realistic, but as I said: I hope he stays.”
Spurs facing competition from Premier League rivals for Ueda
Unsurprisingly, the 27-year-old’s impressive displays this season have brought him to the attention of a number of other English clubs as well.
According to TEAMtalk, Leeds and Brighton could challenge Spurs for the Feyenoord star’s signature this summer.
A couple of days ago, it emerged that Everton may also be about to join Tottenham in the race for Ueda, with David Moyes prioritising adding a number nine to his squad this summer.
