Minister Ben Phiri Commends Karonga DC Over Improved Service Delivery

Karonga, May 6, MANA: Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Dr. Ben Malunga Phiri has commended Karonga District Commissioner Willard Mwambo for improving service delivery in the district.
In a letter dated May 4, 2026, signed by the minister, Phiri said Mwambo has made a strong start since assuming office in January 2026, citing his commitment and hands on leadership.
Phiri highlighted several initiatives under Mwambo’s leadership, including visits to health facilities such as Nyungwe, a clean-up campaign at Uliwa Market in support of Presidential Order Number Two of 2026, and the rollout of digital payment systems for local revenue collection.
He described the initiatives as commendable and urged Mwambo to build on the progress to further improve service delivery in the district.
Phiri said the people of Karonga look up to the district council for guidance, development and efficient public service delivery.
In an interview, Mwambo expressed gratitude for the recognition, saying it will motivate him and his team to continue working hard.
“I am honoured by the ministers compliments. This recognition is not just for me, but for the entire district council team and all stakeholders who are committed to improving service delivery,” he said.
Mwambo said his administration will remain focused on promoting efficiency and transparency in service provision.
“We are determined to strengthen systems, enhance accountability and bring services closer to the people.
Our goal is to make meaningful impact in communities across the district,” he said.
Meanwhile, traditional leadership has also recognised Mwambo’s efforts, with Paramount Chief Kyungu conferring on him the name Mwambokera to signify his integration into the community.
