Samorin’s swimming venue for EA Masters Championships offers Olympic Village experience
Signing up to take part in this summer’s European Aquatics Masters Championships will mean accessing a dedicated event offering an experience akin to being in an Olympic Village.
The X-Bionic Sphere in Samorin, which will host swimming and open water swimming during the competition from August 18 to 30, is Slovakia’s Olympic training centre.
As such it is an all-in-one venue that offers a complete range of competitive and social facilities.
Once athletes arrive they have almost everything within one integrated sports and lifestyle environment:
- competition facilities
- training pools and warm-up areas
- gym and recovery facilities
- wellness and regeneration
- accommodation
- restaurants and catering
- friends & family zones
- open spaces and social areas
- entertainment and themed evenings
- retail and sport-related services
- medical and recovery support
The idea is to create an atmosphere similar to an Olympic Village, where athletes, coaches, families, and friends stay together in one location and become part of one shared community experience throughout the Championships.
This blend of the competitive and the social was clearly in evidence last summer when the X-Bionic Sphere hosted successive European Aquatics Swimming Championships at U23 and Junior level.
After days of top class swimming, athletes were able to relax with friends and family in a range of social areas or bars, surrounded by huge and arresting photographs of top class sportsmen and women from a range of sports who had previously enjoyed training or competing at this dedicated complex.
For Masters athletes specifically, organisers believe this diverse environment is extremely important because the event is not only about racing but also about:
- community
- travel experience
- meeting friends
- family participation
- social interaction
- lifestyle and wellbeing
These uniquely independent Championships will involve not simply a competition venue but a complete European Masters aquatics experience.
