Trump takes shot at red state Republicans hours before high-stakes primary
President Donald Trump lashed out at Indiana Republicans on Tuesday afternoon, with just hours to go before a crucial primary that could test his influence over the state's electorate — and the future of the legislature.
"Good luck to those Great Indiana Senate Candidates who are running against people who couldn’t care less about our Country, or about keeping the Majority in Congress," Trump posted to his Truth Social platform. "There are eight Great Patriots running against long seated RINOS — Let’s see how those RINOS do tonight!"
Trump has been infuriated with Indiana Republicans ever since they refused to buckle to his pressure campaign last year to redraw their congressional map to delete two Democratic seats — as Republicans in Texas, North Carolina, Missouri, and Florida have moved to do at his request.
GOP leadership in Indiana warned Trump they did not have the votes to deliver, then, after months of demands that saw a number of Republican state senators harassed and threatened at their family homes, they finally held a vote, which ended in a landslide defeat.
Since then, Trump has sought to back primary challengers to several Republicans who voted against the scheme.
It remains to be seen how successful the revenge campaign will be, although MAGA-affiliated events to support those challengers have largely fizzled out up to this point.
