Under-23s win league title
Maidstone United under‑23s have won the SCEFL Development Eastern title following a 3-3 draw against Hastings United.
The Stones knew a point would be enough to secure top spot, while Hastings needed to beat Maidstone and then Lordswood next Monday, as well as overturn the goal difference, to claim the league title.
After a goalless first half, the ‘Battle of Hastings’ swung in the home side’s favour as Hastings took a two‑goal lead just six minutes after the break.
Nathan Baker’s side responded superbly, turning the game around to lead 3-2 with five minutes remaining, but conceded a late equaliser in the final minute.
The draw proved sufficient, and the Stones celebrated their second league title in as many days.
Speaking after the game, under‑23s manager Nathan Baker said: “I am incredibly proud of the lads. To show that level of character after going two goals down says everything about this group. We knew what was required today and, over the course of the season, the players have fully deserved this title.”
After 22 games, Maidstone finished the season with 50 points, recording 16 wins and two draws.
