Taylor Swift Had A Met Gala Cheating Scandal
Taylor Swift did not attend the 2026 Met Gala, making it the tenth year in a row that she skipped the fashion event. But for those familiar with her Met Gala lore, her absence might come as no surprise.
Taylor’s last Met Gala was in 2016, when she was in her infamous bleachella era. In a stage of life long before Travis Kelce entered her life, Taylor’s 2016 was filled with breakups, new flings, and even cheating rumors that followed her appearance at that year’s Met Gala.
When she stepped out, mini dress and all, at the 2016 Met Gala, Taylor was in a relationship with Calvin Harris, to whom she had been linked since February 2015. At the Met Gala, though, Taylor hit it off with actor Tom Hiddleston. The pair were photographed dancing together in a moment that made headlines after the event.
Fast forward to June, Taylor and Calvin confirm their breakup, and soon, Taylor is photographed kissing Tom on a rock near her Rhode Island home.
Almost immediately, sources began accusing Taylor of cheating on her DJ ex. “Calvin was very suspicious that Taylor was cheating during their relationship. He just didn’t know with whom,” a source told E! News. “He feels like these pictures confirm his suspicions, and it changes everything. He is so angry and feels betrayed. He is convinced that Taylor was cheating with Tom while they were still together.”

In July 2016, Calvin released a song titled “Olé,” and insiders told TMZ that the lyrics were written from the perspective of the Thor actor amid his romance with Taylor. “I see online that you begun to be a good girl and take trips with your boyfriend … Being attentive, continue to pretend … You’ve hidden my name in your phone so you can call me to tell me you’ve been going through hell. Left him alone and you booked in a hotel,” the lyrics read.
The song also includes a play on words featuring Hiddleston’s most famous role, Loki: “Low key you won’t tell none of your friends about me.”
All the while, Taylor and Tom continued their hot and heavy romance until they called it quits in September 2016.
Ironically, Taylor’s next romance was with Joe Alwyn, whom she also met at the 2016 Met Gala. Their relationship wasn’t confirmed until May 2017, but the lyrics to her song “Dress” all but confirmed that they met at the Met Gala. “Flashback when you met me / Your buzz cut and my hair bleached,” she sings in the song, referring to her and Joe’s haircuts at the event. Joe and Taylor split in 2023 before she met Travis later that year.
Now we’re not saying all that lore is why Taylor won’t attend the Met Gala, but we’re guessing that in the midst of wedding planning, she may not be trying to encounter any ghosts from her past at the event.
When Taylor attended in 2016, she was still publicly dating Calvin Harris. However, inside the event, Taylor met not one but two future boyfriends: Tom Hiddleston and Joe Alwyn.
