Supercomputer predicts new odds of Tottenham relegation after Aston Villa win

Opta’s Supercomputer has drastically changed the likelihood of a Tottenham relegation from the Premier League after the latest round of results.

Even after Spurs had picked up their first league win of the calender year against Wolves last week, many continued to suggest that Tottenham are likely to go down with Burnley and Wolves.

In the lead-up to the weekend, Opta also suggested that Spurs were big favourites to get relegated, giving them a 58.57 per cent chance of finishing in the bottom three.

However, West Ham’s 3-0 loss to Brentford on Saturday, followed by Tottenham’s second league win in a row at Villa Park, has completely changed the picture.

Tottenham are now massive favourites to stay up according to Opta

The Lilywhites moved out of the bottom three above West Ham with their win against Unai Emery’s side, which came as a huge boost to their survival chances.

Tottenham Hotspur still have work to do to secure their place in the top-flight, with just a point separating them and the Hammers.

However, Opta’s Supercomputer has now completely changed its relegation probability numbers after the latest round of results.

The data analysis platform now gives Roberto De Zerbi’s men just a 20.73 per cent chance of being relegated, which represents a 38 per cent age drop from just a few days ago.

West Ham have now been given a 76.7 per cent chance of going down, which means Opta believes Nuno Espirito Santo’s men are almost four times as likely to be relegated as Tottenham are.

Why Spurs are such big favourites to stay up

Some may be surprised that Opta suggests Tottenham are such clear favourites to stay up, given how close things are at the bottom of the table.

However, it is worth keeping in mind that Spurs have an easier set of fixtures on paper than West Ham or Nottingham Forest.

The Lilywhites will be hoping their North London rivals do them a favour by beating West Ham next Sunday, which would give Spurs a golden chance of going four points clear of Nuno’s side with a win over Leeds on Monday night.
