Iran Denies Role After Missile, Drone Attack Hits UAE Energy Hub
The United Arab Emirates said Iran launched missile and drone attacks on an oil facility in Fujairah, causing a large fire and injuring three Indian nationals, in the first such strike since a ceasefire with the United States began in April.
UAE authorities said air defenses responded to multiple incoming threats, including ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and drones, while emergency teams contained the fire at the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone, a key energy export hub.
The incident followed an announcement by US President Donald Trump that American forces would help escort commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz, a move Iran rejected, warning that foreign forces entering the waterway would be attacked.
Iran denied responsibility for the strikes, with state media citing officials who blamed US actions and warned that further escalation could threaten regional stability and security.
The UAE condemned the attack as a violation of international law and said it reserves the right to respond, while authorities shifted schools nationwide to distance learning as a precaution.
Fujairah is a strategic location that allows the UAE to export oil without passing through the Strait of Hormuz, making it a critical point for global energy supply during periods of tension.
The attack followed earlier incidents involving threats to shipping and increased military warnings in the Gulf, raising concerns about the stability of maritime trade routes.
A ceasefire reached in April through mediation efforts has so far failed to produce lasting progress, with negotiations between the United States and Iran remaining deadlocked over key issues.
Several countries condemned the attack and called for restraint, warning that further escalation could have serious consequences for regional and global stability.
Analysts say the latest developments highlight the fragility of the ceasefire and the risk of renewed conflict in a region vital to global energy markets.
