Mission 2026: Man United prepare £150m move for three midfield stars
Manchester United are gearing up for a major summer overhaul, with a midfield revamp firmly at the top of their agenda.
According to the Daily Mail, Man United are ready to spend £150 million to sign three central midfielders this summer if there is sufficient room in the transfer budget.
The club have reportedly set aside around £80 million for a marquee signing to succeed Casemiro.
A further £50 million could be allocated towards securing a second midfield reinforcement to replace Manuel Ugarte.
The remaining £20 million may be used to add a third option, offering crucial depth and balance to the squad.
Casemiro is set to leave the club when his contract expires at the end of June.
Ugarte has failed to meet expectations and is likely to be put up for sale this summer.
This would leave Kobbie Mainoo as the only senior central midfielder in the squad.
Signing two midfielders is absolutely necessary.
If the club prioritises two big-money signings, they may be forced to look internally and promote a promising academy talent.
Elliot Anderson remains a key target, but Nottingham Forest could demand a staggering fee in excess of £100 million.
Unless INEOS are willing to stretch beyond £80 million, a move for Anderson could prove unrealistic.
Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton, Alex Scott, Mateus Fernandes and Aurelien Tchouameni are other midfielders linked with a move to the Theatre of Dreams.
Baleba and Wharton may fit the profile of top-tier targets, but both are likely to exceed the secondary budget bracket.
Both Brighton and Crystal Palace are tough negotiators and are unlikely to accept anything below £70m-£80m.
This summer is a big test for INEOS. If they execute their plans to perfection, the Red Devils could emerge with a formidable squad capable of mounting a serious Premier League title challenge.
