Man Utd preparing swoop for £43m Brazilian midfielder
Manchester United have moved ahead of Atletico Madrid in the pursuit of Atalanta midfielder Ederson, according to Tuttomercatoweb.
The Red Devils are poised to reinforce their midfield department this summer. Casemiro will formally depart when his contract expires on June 30.
Manuel Ugarte has been underwhelming with his performances this campaign, and the Uruguayan ace could also be shown the exit door.
Amidst this, Tuttomercatoweb claim that United are favourites ahead of Atletico in the race for Ederson.
Ederson has already agreed on personal terms (£3.5m per year) with Atletico, but there has been a disagreement over the transfer package.
Diego Simeone’s side are reluctant to pay more than £35m for the Brazilian, while Atalanta are aiming for at least £43m, including add-ons, for him.
With just a year left on his contract, Ederson is expected to leave the Bergamo outfit, who are eyeing a significant capital gain from his departure.
Man Utd should swoop for Ederson after Atletico impasse
Ederson has been one of the best-performing midfielders in Serie A for the last few years. He was on United’s radar in 2024 before they purchased Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain.
The Brazil international has re-emerged as a target for the Red Devils with the possibility of replacing two midfielders. The 26-year-old would be a fabulous acquisition for the club.
Ederson has a passing accuracy of almost 90 percent in Serie A this term. He has won four duels and made five recoveries per league game, with almost two successful tackles.
The midfielder’s positioning and ball control have grabbed attention over the years. His work rate has likewise been phenomenal, and he has the knack for delivering quality long balls.
With a year left on his contract, United may not offer £43m as a fixed fee for Ederson, but they could certainly propose £35m upfront with the remainder in performance add-ons.
With former United chief John Murtough serving as Atalanta’s director of global development, the Red Devils could utilise their close working relationship to beat Atletico to the midfielder.
United have also previously signed Rasmus Hojlund and Amad Diallo from the Serie A heavyweights, which should further boost their prospects of prising Ederson away from the Italian club.
