CFFA Update 5.3.26
RESULTS
Held our first 12 and under event yesterday. The foil was a very even event as 3 of the five people were tied at 2-2 after the pool round. In the end, Harrison Dearborn was 5th, Knox Bell and Gio Amato tied for third, Jeremiah Yandle was 2nd, and Graham Betz won the event. The epee was a back and forth affair. Jeramiah defeated Mark Benton in the pool, but Mark rallied to win the DE and take first. Here are the sword points after this event:
Boys Girls
Graham Betz 5 none
Jeremiah Yandle 5 (hint, hint)
Gio Amato 3
Knox Bell 3
Mark Benton 2
Harrison Dearborn 1
I hope to do another one on May 23rd. It will have foil at 10 am and epee at 2 pm. We give trophies to the top 4 competitors overall, medals to the top 3 nine and under competitors (if they don’t win a trophy), and swords to the season long point winners. Hopefully, as we will have some eligible people who will graduate their beginner classes in the next couple of weeks, these should be a bit larger. Volunteer referees would be very welcome.
IMPORTANT DEADLINES
The deadline for entering the Summer Nationals at the regular fees is May 6th. The regular fees (tournament fee, event fee, and administrative fee) total $225 for one event, $320 for two, etc. After May 6th the fees triple, so $675 for one, $960 for two, etc. Let me know if you are going so I can make plans, the only person I see at the moment is still Brendan.
The last big local event of the year will be on May 30 at Apex. We have some people in the Open Foil and D and under foil, but they both need more bodies to be more than E events. The Open epee is already an A event (without any Clicks!) and would probably be the last good tune up before Nationals. Registration closes May 24th.
CLU UPDATES
I will be out Thursday due to the Homeschool end of the year banquet, so no class or lessons that night.
The last evening beginner class for this (academic) year will start Tuesday, May 5th at 6:30 pm.
ARMORING CLINIC
There seems to be some interest in an armoring clinic, so Herman is looking at setting one up this summer. We would probably have Kathy Walters come in. Kathy is (was?) the person who represents the US at International Armorer meetings and also is one of the people they send to International events to oversee the international armorers. Let Herman or me know if you are interested and some dates that might be good.
