Deaf Man Excels as Mobile Money Agent in Mzimba
By Michael John | MANAD Correspondent
James Nyirenda, a Deaf entrepreneur from Edingeni in Mzimba, is earning a living through mobile money business, proving that disability is not inability.
Nyirenda, a member of Embangweni MANAD Club, studied Community Development at MACODA Vocational Training Centre in Lilongwe from Level 1 to Level 5.
However, financial challenges forced him to stop before completing his final level.
Determined to become self-reliant, he ventured into mobile money business after receiving guidance from a friend.
He now operates as an independent agent, providing financial services to people in his community.
Nyirenda says his work is not without challenges. Some customers fail to verify transaction details before entering their PINs, leading to misunderstandings and disputes.
He also faces communication barriers when dealing with customer care services and utility transactions.
Despite the difficulties, Nyirenda remains hopeful and continues to improve his skills.
He has since encouraged fellow Deaf individuals to believe in themselves, saying disability should never stop anyone from achieving their goals.
