Collin Murray-Boyles hopes to avoid thumb surgery
The press conferences are back live after a decently long break, and next up was Collin Murray-Boyles. The ninth overall pick sustained a thumb injury late in the regular season that came up a few times and caused him to miss a decent amount of time, as he featured in 57 games during his rookie season.
When CMB was asked about a possible surgery, he responded with “It’s a possibility, I guess, I pray it’s not that.”
Despite supporting his thumb with a wrap after sustaining the injury and battling through the pain, CMB also said that his thumb has been feeling better over the past month or so. It looks like the rookie might have dodged a bullet playing through a possible injury, and he hopes to avoid a potential surgery.
The South Carolina product had a wonderful rookie season, starting in 22 games as an undersized big when Jakob Poeltl missed time, as he averaged 8.5 points, 5 rebounds, 1.9 assists and just under a steal and block per game with 0.9 in each category. The rookie entered with a big question mark around his three-point shooting, and he shot a solid 34 percent from beyond the arc on 0.9 attempts per game.
His playoff performance was even better, averaging 14.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.1 blocks against much bigger opponents as CMB was usually tasked with the Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley matchup.
