Did Cameron Diaz & Benji Madden Use A Surrogate For Their Third Child?
Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden are now a family of five, but the news certainly took fans by surprise.
The couple, who are known for maintaining their family’s privacy, announced the new arrival on Madden’s Instagram page on May 4. With a pirate ship graphic explaining the origin of the baby boy’s name, the 47-year-old singer revealed, “Cameron and I are Happy, Excited, and feeling so BLESSED to announce the birth of our third Child, Nautas Madden. Welcome to the world, Son!!”
Nautas joins big sis Raddix Wildflower, 6, and Cardinal, 2, to the Madden family. Diaz and Madden, who married in 2015, struggled with conceiving a child, and in 2018, an Us Weekly source shared that the duo “would love to have a baby, [but] it just hasn’t worked out.” At the time, the insider divulged that Diaz “would love more than anything to be a mom.”
“They don’t know exactly what it will look like, whether it will be natural or through adoption or surrogacy, but they aren’t giving up,” they added.
The 53-year-old actress has never discussed whether she and Madden used a surrogate for their three children, there have only been unconfirmed reports that it was the route the family chose to take. Instead, Diaz loves to gush about the joys of motherhood.
“It’s been heaven,” she said in July 2020 on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “Literally every single day, there’s just leaps and bounds…and she’s [Raddix] not the same baby that she was yesterday. Where was yesterday? Yesterday is literally gone, and today is a new day, and tomorrow will be a new day that she’s a completely different baby.”
The decision to keep their family-planning choices off the radar isn’t surprising, given their desire to raise their kids out of the spotlight. But Diaz was open about being an older parent and what that means for her life moving forward.
“The women who have children my age are like, literally 20 years younger, and that’s an interesting place to be because I’m not that age,” she said in a March 2022 interview with BBC Radio 2’s podcast, Michelle Visage’s Rule Breakers. “And that’s totally OK. But I want to feel vital like that for my child.”
Now that the Maddens are a family of five, there’s no doubt the kids are keeping mom and dad on their toes.
