Not seeing Xbox mode in Windows 11 yet? Unlock it using this free tool

One of the new features in the optional April 2026 update for Windows 11 (KB5083631) is the long-awaited Xbox mode, which boosts gaming performance by disabling unnecessary processes. It’s already been a few days, though, and many who have installed the update still aren’t seeing Xbox mode yet due to the gradual rollout.

As of now, users in North America have top priority for the Xbox mode rollout, followed by users in Europe. Even so, many in North America are still left hanging. You might still in one of the waiting buckets.

Fortunately, you can speed the process up manually. Xbox mode can be forcibly activated using ViVeTool, a popular free app that’s available via GitHub. The only prerequisite is first installing update KB5083631.

What is ViVeTool?

ViVeTool lets you activate hidden features in Windows 11. These are features that Microsoft has already integrated into the operating system but hasn’t yet officially enabled for one reason or another.

This small command-line program allows you to view and activate these experimental Windows 11 components. In this way, you can test out new system elements weeks or months before their official rollouts. You can also customize the user interface to your liking.

What is Xbox mode?

The new Xbox mode, which was formerly known as Xbox Full Screen Experience (FSE), offers a console-like interface when gaming on a Windows 11 PC. This interface is optimized for full-screen display readability and navigation using a gaming controller.

Xbox mode is also designed to allow players to seamlessly switch between productive work and gaming without limiting the flexibility of Windows itself. Microsoft emphasizes that the interface was specifically developed to bring a console feel to the PC.
