Netflix's 'The Night Agent' to End with Season 4
The Night Agent is coming to an end.
Already renewed for a fourth season back in March, Netflix confirmed on Monday, May 4 that the fourth season will also be its last.
The series, which debuted in 2023, has been a massive hit for the streamer, and, per Forbes, is the 10th most-viewed English-language series in Netflix history.
‘The Night Agent’ Coming to An End
In a press release on Monday, Netflix confirmed that “The Night Agent will come to an epic conclusion when it returns for its fourth and final season, which began production today in Los Angeles.”
Added series Creator, EP, and Showrunner Shawn Ryan in a statement: “Ever since the initial success of The Night Agent, I've been obsessed with eventually delivering a proper and thrilling conclusion to the show and to Peter Sutherland's journey.”
“I'm so grateful to Netflix and Sony Pictures Television for partnering with me on The Night Agent and for giving us the space to deliver a definitive final season to our worldwide legion of fans,” he added. “We are hard at work to complete our story and to make our final season one our fans will never forget.”
Details About Season 4
Ryan previously teased fans about what to expect for Season 4 back in February, after the Season 3 drop.
The shift to Los Angeles comes after Ryan told Deadline that the new episodes will be set in “a world that is present in Los Angeles, it’s not present in New York for the most part; there’s something in the Los Angeles region that exists at a much bigger level than New York.” And no, it’s not Hollywood.”
While other characters besides star Gabriel Basso’s Peter Sutherland will return, Ryan also said his new partner would be “a new character that we’ve never met before.”
‘The Night Agent’ Dips In Viewership
The first season of The Night Agent was a smash for Netflix, quickly breaking into the streamer’s Most Popular list. The series as a whole, meanwhile, reached its Global Top 10.
As pointed out by Forbes, however, the viewership has continued to drop season by season.
The outlet reported that the opening weekend for Season 1 drew 20.6 million views, while Season 2 brought in 13.9 million. The first-weekend viewership for Season 3, meanwhile, dropped 39.6% from the prior season, debuting with just 8.4 million views.
The series will be saving some money on the fourth and final season, however, after reportedly securing a $31.6 million tax credit to move from New York to Los Angeles.
The first three seasons of The Night Agent are streaming now on Netflix.
