Why We Love This Deal
Spring is chukka boot season. This type of low-cut boot is a stylish warm-weather favorite that pairs well with both casual and dressier outfits. I’m a big fan: I’ve worn chukkas since high school, and they’re a go-to shoe in my rotation. Surprisingly, retailers are rolling out some big discounts on in-season styles right now, and this eye-popping deal from Sperry is one of the best out there.
Sperry’s Newton Heritage Chukka Boot is on sale for just $60, a major 64% discount from its normal price of $165. It’s available in two handsome colorways at that price, and there’s a full size range in stock in both. It beats the prices at Zappos and Shopbop, and it’s the best deal I’ve personally seen for a Sperry chukka boot recently.

First, a little history. Chukkas take their name from a period of play in polo, and they originated as low-cut boots that British officers in India wore after polo matches. In World War II, British soldiers in North Africa adopted similar footwear; that’s why chukkas earned the alternate name “desert boots.”
Post-war, the chukka became a popular silhouette for civilians, especially after celebrities like Bob Dylan and Steve McQueen started wearing them. Chukkas come in many variations, but the basic design has these hallmarks: An ankle-height shaft, two to three eyelets, and an upper made from leather or suede.

Sperry's Newton Heritage Chukka boots offer a distinct New England spin on the classic chukka formula. Each boot is built with a leather upper: smooth hide in the Tan colorway and a beautifully pebbled leather in the darker Taupe. Unlike a typical chukka, however, this boot features a moc-toe construction, a Sperry hallmark found on the brand’s boat shoes. The boot is also a bit taller than usual for chukkas and features five eyelets.
On the bottom, it’s paired with a bold and durable lug sole, and the rubber features Sperry’s iconic wave siping for excellent grip on wet surfaces. Overall, it’s a great everyday boot that’ll look awesome under a pair of jeans, but it can dress up, too: The moc toe adds an almost loafer-like panache, so it’ll go well with chinos and a button-down or a sweater for a slightly more formal look.
Sperry’s on-sale chukkas are selling fast across the board, and I’m seeing very limited sizes left in stock. For now, the Newton Heritage Chukka is the exception, but at over 60% off, it’ll surely sell out soon—lay claim to your pair ASAP before that happens.
