Dana White: Lightning Is the Only Weather Threat to UFC Freedom 250 at the White House

Since it was first announced, there has been a lot of interest in the plans for the upcoming UFC event that will take place at the White House. Amid the UFC Freedom 250 updates that have excited fight fans, the President and C.E.O. of the company, Dana White, has just revealed the one thing that could stop the event.

Dana White Says Lightning Is the One Thing That Could Stop UFC Freedom 250

On Sunday, May 3, 2026, UFC President and C.E.O. Dana White was interviewed by Lara Trump for Fox News. During the discussion, he was asked about the plans for the upcoming UFC event to be staged outdoors at the White House and remarked, "I hate outdoors. Outdoors is just way too unpredictable."

After acknowledging that UFC Freedom 250 could be affected by severe weather, White expressed how determined he and his team are that the event will happen as planned. Even though he pledged to stage the fights even if it is raining or snowing, White admitted that lightning is the one thing that could stop the event. "We've gone over this, you know. If it rains, we're going. If it snows, we're going. The only thing that will stop us is lightning."

Given that lightning has the potential to ruin the much hyped event, White went on to describe how closely the UFC will be monitoring weather forecasts. He explained that based on the predicted conditions, they are open to the chance that the company will need to adjust the start time of the event to avoid lightning. Still, he conceded that prolonged lightning could "kill" the event.

"We're working with the military. So the military knows the weather 10 days out, and they'll notify us every two hours, 10 days out. Seven days out, they'll notify us every hour. We also have another company that does it for concerts and things like that. They're very good too. So what could happen is that the only thing that kills us is lightning. So we could move the event two hours earlier, two hours after, you know. So these are all things that we'll be playing with the week of the event."

UFC Freedom 250 is scheduled to take place on July 14, 2026, on the south lawn of the White House grounds. Its name is inspired by the 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence. Here is the full announced card for the event:
