Clippers Strike Rapidly in Game 1 Win
The Nanaimo Clippers scored once in the first period, then three times in 2:47 early in the second period to control game one of the Coastal Conference Final with a 4-0 victory over the Prince George Spruce Kings Friday night at Kopar Memorial Arena
The Clippers put up the first eight shots on goal in the first period before Charles Béland opened the scoring at 13:54. After Miller Kay rushed into the zone and was stopped by Colin Reay, Béland had an open net and opened the scoring. Shots on goal in the first would end 12-3 in favour of the Clippers.
The rapid goal scoring happened in the opening 5:54 of the second period.
First, Béland picked up his second of the night off a scrambled play which saw the puck go up in the air and over Reay to make it 2-0.
Then, just 1:01 later, Will Subject got a clearing attempt held at the line, walked to the middle and picked the far corner to make it 3-0.
Landon Pappas would make it 4-0 at 5:54 putting home a rebound after Jack Rimmer and Hayden Fechner drove the puck to the net. Ryder Green would then come on in relief of Reay.
The Spruce Kings could only muster 8 shots through 40 minutes, but generated 11 in the final frame. Overall the Clippers outshot the Spruce Kings 34-19.
Game 2 goes Saturday night at 6:00 PM at Kopar Memorial Arena.
