Calder: We'll Push For A Better Result On Tuesday
Owen Calder is 'hoping for a better result' next Tuesday as Hearts emerged victorious in the first of two back-to-back derbies in the CAS Elite U19 League.
The Hibs U19s wing-back is extremely dissatisfied with the Hibees' showing at Oriam - as the hosts struck three times off the back of set pieces to seal the win.
Jamie McMurdo would fire in our only goal - to bring the score back to 2-1 before we would concede a third just five minutes later - on what would be a terribly frustrating evening for the youngsters.
"It’s really disappointing," Calder said, reflecting on the match.
"I think tonight was a really big chance for us to really grab the league by the neck and move forward, and I think we struggled to be honest.
"I think Hearts were a younger team, we had older more experienced boys and that makes it more disappointing.
"I think we went in at half-time 2-0 down and that was the message, to get a goal back and then we move forward on that.
"We got the goal back and then not long after concede, it just kills all momentum. Really disappointing."
Hibs would surge forward on threatening attacks throughout the 90, with McMurdo and Josh McDonald continually crafting opportunities and Logan Jimenez offering a threat in the mixer, but the team struggled to routinely test Hearts keeper Jack Lyon.
And while the Hibees showed glimpses of quality going forward, conceding three goals - all occuring in the aftermath of dead ball situations - would prove costly on the night.
"[The manner of the goals conceded] was very, very disappointing," Calder noted.
"I don't think Hearts created much apart from the chances they took, and it was three balls in the box, three set pieces, so it's something that we clearly need to work on and we'll work on that moving forward.
It is now a quick turnaround to the next derby, on Tuesday afternoon at HTC, and Calder is already looking forward to a chance to rectify the defeat: "I think the boys will definitely be at it on Tuesday and we can push for a better result."
