Mutharika Breaks Silence: “I Am Not Sick”
President Peter Mutharika has dismissed growing rumours about his health, stating clearly that he is not sick and remains in good condition.
Mutharika addressed the matter during a meeting with Malawi Broadcasting Corporation Director General Brian Banda at Sanjika Palace in Blantyre.
He described reports circulating on social media suggesting that he is receiving treatment at Donald Gordon Hospital in South Africa as false.
“I am not sick. I am in good health and fully focused on my responsibilities,” Mutharika said.
The President warned against what he called “rumour mongers,” urging Malawians to rely on verified information rather than speculation spreading online.
He further emphasized that his administration remains focused on key national priorities, including stabilizing the economy and improving living conditions for citizens.
Mutharika noted that government efforts are currently directed at strengthening economic performance, particularly in areas such as fuel supply and foreign exchange stability.
He said these interventions are aimed at restoring confidence in the economy and ensuring that development continues across all sectors.
During the same engagement, Mutharika also commended the leadership at MBC, saying the public broadcaster has shown improvement in its operations.
He encouraged Brian Banda to maintain professionalism and continue upholding high standards in public broadcasting.
The remarks come amid heightened political discussions on social media regarding the President’s health, which have sparked mixed reactions among Malawians.
However, Mutharika’s message was firm, insisting he remains active, healthy, and committed to national service.
