Is Rare Beauty’s True to Myself Matte Foundation Good for Dry Skin? I Found Out

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, SheKnows may receive an affiliate commission.

As a makeup enthusiast, I’m always on the hunt for new foundations to put to the test. For the longest time, I’ve been an avid user of Tarte’s Face Tape Foundation, but I’ve realized that there are so many others out there I could try — that’s the fun of makeup, there are so many options.

As a Rare Beauty fanatic (I love the Soft Pinch Liquid Blush), I was stoked when I learned the brand released its first ever foundation. I saw the promotion for it all over my Instagram and TikTok feed and knew I had to get my hands on it.

Keep on reading to see my thoughts on Rare Beauty’s True to Myself Natural Matte Longwear Foundation. Spoiler alert: I love it.

What is Rare Beauty’s True to Myself Natural Matte Longwear Foundation?

The True to Myself Natural Matte Longwear Foundation is a medium to full coverage foundation that prime, covers and sets all in one. You might be wondering, well, how does it do that? According to the brand, the formula contains film formers which act as primer and milled powders to help keep it in place all day — aka no smudging happening with this foundation.

Aside from boasting a natural-looking finish, it contains skincare ingredients sodium hyaluronate, ginger root and algae extract that are designed to help strengthen the skin barrier and hydrate the skin for up to eight hours.

It’s available in 48 shades and is vegan, cruelty-free and paraben free. Plus, it’s dermatologist and ophthalmologist tested and boasts a non-comedogenic formula so you won’t be left with clogged pores and a greater chance of breakouts during and after use.

Shade: Light Neutral

Rare Beauty True to Myself Foundation: My Honest Review

At a quick glance, I love this foundation. Normally, I’m more of a full coverage girl, however, I appreciate how buildable it is to achieve whatever look you want. For example, on the days I want a more natural finish, I use less product. If I want to have more of a full beat, then I put on a bit more. That said, a little bit goes a long way. One or two pumps is all you need to cover the surface area of your face — three if you want more coverage.

In terms of the foundation itself, it’s very smooth and lightweight. It feels like a second skin when applying it to the face. I could still tell I was wearing foundation, but it definitely was not as thick or heavy as others I’ve tried in the past since it had a more whipped consistency. Personally, I prefer this as I don’t necessarily love feeling like I’m wearing foundation — it’s not filmy or slick at all.

As for the shades, the lineup is extensive — honestly, one of the most inclusive brands I’ve ever seen with over 48 shades ranging from fair neutral to deep cool.

What Skin Type Is The Rare Beauty Foundation Best For?

According to the brand, the True to Myself Natural Matte Longwear Foundation is best for sensitive skin and those with oily, normal and combination skin types. As someone with dry skin, I found that it left my skin feeling soft, supple and hydrated — although it was matte, it didn’t leave my face dry at all.

I can’t speak for those with oily skin, but you could add some extra setting powder to really lock it in and prevent excess shine.

Where Can I Get Get Rare Beauty’s True to Myself Natural Matte Longwear Foundation?

Comes in 48 shades

The price point for the foundation is $38 which is actually a pretty good deal since the product stretches far. It isn’t a drugstore price by any means, however, it’s not the most expensive foundation — it’s a happy medium. As someone who buys a lot of foundations, for the quality of the product, I actually didn’t mind spending nearly $40 on a product — I think it was well worth the investment.

The True to Myself Natural Matte Longwear Foundation is currently available on Rare Beauty’s website and at Sephora. If you order on Rare Beauty’s website, you can get free shipping when you spend over $50 — just add in the Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oil and you’ll be all set.
